Vegan Forever!

Veganuary is a New Year’s revolution which this year is set to break 2021’s record of 580,000 participants. Since its founding in 2014, the concept has grown to encompass not only going vegan in your diet but also going vegan in your wardrobe. The Veganuary challenge lasts a total of 31 days, but why break your resolution there? We certainly won’t be. The climate crisis demands permanent reformation in fashion, not just temporary change.  From February 2022, we will be a vegan and sustainable brand every day of every year to come.

Here’s how you can join the fashion revolution in 2022 and beyond

#WITHAMSCHELA

Master The Basics

Firstly, you’ll need to become vegan fashion-conscious to stop those shopping dilemmas. A vegan wardrobe means no leather, wool, silk, cashmere, feathers, or fur. However, this does not mean you should simply throw away your previously bought non-vegan pieces. If you still love them, keep wearing them! Or, if you need a clean slate, donate them to charity or sell them so they don’t end up in a landfill.

Besides the main culprits, there are many hidden animal products in clothing and accessories, such as animal-derived glue, animal-derived dye, and silk linings. It would be unrealistic to expect you to identify all of these things; frankly, we don’t have the time either. Thankfully, PETA has created a label (you may recognise it from our vegan collections) for brands whose products are PETA-Approved Vegan. Just look out for the label shown below, and you can rest assured that what’s in your basket is 100% animal-free.

 Conscious Fashion Buys

The rise in vegan fashion is a reaction to the climate crisis and a part of the industry’s widespread effort to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. As a result, veganism and sustainability have become intrinsically connected. As you build your vegan wardrobe, ask yourself questions like: ‘Will this last?’, ‘Will I still wear this in 2 years?’, ‘Is this versatile?’. The mantra goes, quality over quantity. Say it and repeat! If you mean to practice what you preach, begin by creating a personal capsule collection that’s made up of staple pieces. Once you’ve laid the foundations, you’ll be putting fast fashion behind you and be well on your way to curating a vegan wardrobe that will last a lifetime.
